TRIANGLE EVENTS: A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, TRAFFIC JAM AT AHPEELE, LIGHT CLASSICAL FAVORITES

If you’re like many people in the Triangle, either you or your friends now have little ones in tow. This doesn’t mean you can’t take them out and experience all the great Triangle events though, and this weekend there’s a multitude of options depending on everyone’s interests – from an outdoor Shakespearean experience to local art and mini photo sessions to an outdoor symphony with a picnic food contest! And the best part – you can bring the whole family!

Midsummer

A Midsummer Night’s Dream: Thursday, May 28th – Sunday, June 7th

Presented as part of Wherefore: Shakespeare in Raleigh, A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a whimsical tale of mischievous sprites, lost lovers, and bumbling rustics. The talented artists at Raleigh Little Theatre, in partnership with Seed Art Share, bring this tale to life for six outdoor performances held from Thursday, May 28th to Sunday, June 7th – each at 7:30 p.m. (gates open at 6:30 p.m.) in the Raleigh Rose Garden.

Traffic Jam at Ahpeele: Saturday, May 30th

Do you enjoy browsing through and appreciating handcrafted pieces, vintage items, and fine art? You don’t want to miss Traffic Jam at Ahpeele! Traffic Jam, held on Saturday, May 30th from 10am-4pm, is a community drive market held at a stunning venue featuring items from over 20 local artisans. While you browse the wealth of creations, you will enjoy classic tunes provided by The Record Krate and several food trucks will be on site to serve up delicious fare. If you’re interested in photography, be sure to stop by and see one of Raleigh’s most loved photographers, Elizabeth Galecke, who will be available to shoot mini-sessions. Bring your family for a fantastic group photo!

SummerFest

Summerfest: Your Favorite Light Classics: Saturday, May 30th

If you enjoy relaxing under the stars while listening to beautiful classical music, you don’t want to miss Summerfest: Your Favorite Light Classics performed by the North Carolina Symphony Orchestra. Held on Saturday, May 30th, 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 5:30 p.m.), at the Koka Booth Amphitheatre, this event offers picnickers the opportunity to enjoy their classical favorites such as Grieg’s Peer Gynt, Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody, and more!

Put your summer food skills to the test by participating in Picnic of the Week, where judges roam around to select the best picnic spread. The winner will earn a $100 gift card to Whole Foods Market while two honorable mentions will win a gift card worth $25. If you’re not the picnic packing type, there will be food available for purchase at the Booth Amphitheatre.

Bring the whole family! Kids ages 12 and under are always admitted free. Kids of all ages will also be able to enjoy North Carolina Symphony’s Instrument Zoo, a popular educational opportunity to learn about the different orchestra instruments and try them out for themselves.
