TRIANGLE EVENTS: ABCs OF STARTING A BUSINESS; INNOVATE RALEIGH SUMMIT; 9/11 DAY OF SERVICE
This week is all about community – from starting your own business to how innovation and diversity can work together to a Day of Service with multiple volunteer opportunities. Give back or increase your knowledge at the Triangle events below.
ABCs of Starting a Business: Wednesday, September 9th – 11:30am-1:30pm
Interested in starting your own small business but haven’t a clue where to begin? Then you don’t want to miss the ABCs of Starting a Business, the first segment of the Starting a Business Series held in the Small Business Center at Durham Tech Community College. In this 2-hour seminar, attendees will gain the necessary skills to assist them in the beginning process of business development such as business license requirements, marketing strategies, grant opportunities, and more. With the knowledge gained in this series, a new business owner can feel confident in taking the next steps toward achieving their dreams.

Innovate Raleigh Summit: Thursday, September 10th – 1:30pm-7:30pm
“Innovate Raleigh is a non-profit, community-driven organization working to catalyze innovation efforts in the region.” They focus on furthering the success of the entrepreneur community and strive to catalyze innovation efforts in our region. Join them on Thursday, September 10th at the Market Hall in Downtown Raleigh for their annual Innovator Summit, a day of learning and exploring for all those searching to further themselves personally and professionally. The day begins with a luncheon at 1:30 p.m. and moves into a panel discussion at 2:30 p.m. Afterwards, attendees will enjoy keynote speaker Nzinga Shaw, Chief Diversity and Inclusion officer for the Atlanta Hawks and Philip’s Arena Organization, as she speaks on Inclusivity in Organizations. Beginning at 4:40 p.m., each attendee will be randomly paired with two industry leaders at a table with 14 fellows Summit-ers where they will be able to ask questions and learn about the facilitators’ career story and road to success.
6:00 p.m. will begin the Networking Happy Hour, allowing participants to mingle and chat. All Summit events will end in time for Downtown Raleigh’s Hopscotch Music Festival (learn more about that here).

9/11 Day of Service: Friday, September 11th
Join fellow citizens for the 9/11 Day of Service to remember those who were affected by the devastating events in 2001. The City of Raleigh, the Downtown Raleigh Alliance, local businesses, and fellow Americans are all coming together to take on projects around our region to enrich and strengthen communities, neighborhoods, and those in need. Volunteer opportunities include refurbishing schools, packaging food for the hungry, constructing a new home with Habitat for Humanity, building animal homes with Carolina Tiger Rescue, fighting hunger by helping with the Growing Gardens by Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, making ABC books for kids learning to read and much more!
After you’ve done your part, join together with others at the 9/11 Evening Commemoration at the Red Hat Amphitheater where attendees will participate in different hands-on stations to create service projects. Don’t forget to bring your donated food items to “Fill the Truck” for Urban Ministries of Wake County!
