There’s a distinct chill in the air and the fair is in full swing here in North Carolina, meaning only one thing: Fall is definitely here! October is full of fall fun – Oktoberfest, Fall Festivals, the NC State Fair, and of course Halloween. This month would be incomplete without a few pumpkin – centric celebrations as well. Here are a couple you should definitely check out!
Held at the Durham Museum of Life and Science, the Pumpkin Patch Express is a unique take on the pumpkin finding experience. Attendees of all ages get the chance to ride on the Ellerbee Creek Railway to a pumpkin patch full of crafts, games, and science. Your ticket includes admission to the museum itself, which features over 80 acres of outdoor exhibits. Tickets are $12 each for members ages 3 and up and $20 each for non-members and the event ends after this weekend (October 25 – 27). Train times are listed on the website as well as directions.
Visit an actual working farm and learn about how pumpkins have been used by our ancestors. You can take home your own pumpkin for decorating after a hay ride through the pastures to see the farm animals. You will also be able to take a walking tour to see the animals up close. Finish up your visit with the chance to shop for gourds and special harvest crafts. The Fisher family has been in Nash County for over 150 years so this is a great opportunity to learn about NC’s heritage in farming.
Happy Fall Season Everyone!
