November Local Events: Brew Durham 5, Handmade Market, NC Comicon

As usual this month there are multiple fun local events for all ages and a variety of interests. This weekend focuses on homebrew and handmade goodies while next weekend celebrates the return of NC Comicon.

Brew Durham 5 Homebrew Festival

Featuring over 40 home brewed beers from area brewers and a selection of yummy treats from local restaurants, Brew Durham 5 happens on Saturday, November 8, at The Scrap Exchange. There are two different sessions, Session 1 from 1:00 – 4:00pm, and Session 2 from 5:00 – 8:00pm. Tickets are $35 in advance, $40 at the door (Designated Driver Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door) and proceeds benefit The Scrap Exchange. Started by a home brewer in 2011, the event celebrates the DIY and creative spirit that is a central part of The Scrap Exchange mission.

The Handmade Market Fall 2014

The 18th semiannual installment of The Handmade Market will be on Saturday, November 8, from 11:00am – 5:00pm. Featuring unique, handcrafted gifts from local artists, the event is free but for a $5 fee at the door early birds may enter from 10:00 – 11:00am and beat the crowd. Held at Cobblestone Hall in downtown Raleigh, a diverse group of designers will be selling goods such as jewelry, men and women’s apparel, fashion accessories, home goods, fine art, and stationary. In addition, local photographer Elizabeth Galecke will be offering photo sessions for only $30, a perfect way to get your holiday photos done now! The holiday show also includes a fundraiser that will benefit Read and Feed, a charity that strives to bridge the gaps of reading deficiencies for low income elementary students in Wake County.

NC Comicon

NC Comicon

Held on Saturday November 15th from 10:00am – 7:00pm and Sunday November 16th from 10:00am – 5:00pm, NC Comicon is the local version of the well-known convention celebrating all things related to comics, graphic novels, anime, video games, and other aspects of pop culture. Featuring special guest appearances, portfolio reviews, a costume contest, film festival, discussion panels, and an exhibit hall, the event is held at the Durham Convention Center and full details are available online. Targeted to all  superhero, wizard, cosplayer, and fantasy enthusiasts, NC Comicon is full of talented guests and will have additional pre- and post-party events to network with fellow attendees.
