SPARKcon: Igniting the creative hub of the South
SPARKcon Opening Ceremony on Eventbrite
SPARKcon is an annual showcase of creativity in the Triangle region – a cultural mishmash of anything and everything creative. From art to music to film to dance to fashion to gaming to trapeze artistry to poetry readings – this year’s 4-day festival offers something for everyone and starts this Thursday, September 13th (today!). SPARKcon was created in 2006 as a way to celebrate the creative momentum in the Raleigh. An open-source approach is used throughout the organization to encourage local community volunteers to become Raleigh-Durham community leaders through use of their own dynamic resources and networks in producing each event.
Thursday starts with an Opening Ceremony at the downtown Raleigh amphitheater including the 7th annual fashionSPARK Runway Show at 8pm. Friday showcases a PechaKucha event, a jewelry trunk show, and multiple art installations. Saturday is full of music, theatre, film, skateboarding, and street painting shows. Sunday winds the event down with more music, architectural design tours, a gaming showcase, poetry event, and zumba party.
SPARKcon has multiple sources to find more info – their website, Facebook, Twitter, and even a schedule app for the iPhone. Most of the events are free or suggested-donation admission and are held at multiple locations throughout Raleigh. Find your ‘SPARK’ and enjoy the creative talents in this great city!
