Triangle Events: Geeks N Taps, Beer and Bacon Fest, Lonerider Showdown
Although April is technically NC Beer month, March has plenty of Triangle event options for those wanting to enjoy some brews – from the geeky to the savory to specialty casks.
If you’re the type who loves to learn, even when drinking, this group is for you. Holding events throughout the Triangle and beyond, Geeks N Taps combines beer experts alongside scientists to enrich your drinking experience through fun beer-centric activities – from wearing ‘drunk goggles’ while trying to play corn hole to learning how your genetics affect what you taste and smell to the upcoming Science Behind Hops event in Durham and the Sip and Sleth – Sensory Panel event in Raleigh. Admission to each event often includes five 1 – 2 ounce tastings and locations, times, and tickets for all events can be found on the website.
A highly popular event held at Cary’s Koka Booth Amphitheater on Saturday March 28, from 2pm – 6pm, Beer and Bacon Fest is exactly what it sounds: a celebration of all things craft beer and pork. Over 75 craft beers, 15 restaurants, and 10 bacons from across the US will be participating. Food will be served until 3pm and tickets include a souvenir glass. Tickets start at $49 in advance and while the beer and wine is free, bacon and food is a la carte. There are also Designated Driver tickets available. VIP ticket purchasers will get earlier access (noon) and food tastings are included in the ticket price. Last year’s event sold out so act fast if you want to attend.
For good times and all the cowgirls and cowboys in the area, the Lonerider Showdown returns to Moore Square again on Saturday March 28th. For only $20 attendees will have the opportunity to sample some of Lonerider’s core beers and specialty casks. Tickets include 2 drink tickets. Live music will happen throughout the day – DJ K Stones, Tan and Sober Gentlemen, Carolina Still, and Skinny Molly will be entertaining the crowd this year. Gates open at 3pm and the showdown comes to a close at 10pm.
