TRIANGLE EVENTS: WIDE OPEN BLUEGRASS; PAY IT FORWARD PARTY; FAMILY ADVENTURE RACE

Hurrican Joaquin may be rolling in the next few days but the dreary weather isn’t dampening the spirit of these Triangle events! Though some concessions may need to be made for the weather, this weekend still has some promising events for those of you who love music, food, athletic events, or charitable events.

Wide Open Bluegrass

Wide Open Bluegrass: Friday, October 2nd – Saturday, October 3rd

On Friday and Saturday, October 2nd & 3rd, come out and enjoy the Wide Open Bluegrass Festival in downtown Raleigh! Sponsored by PNC, this two-day festival includes music, fun activities, and delicious food. If you love the “down home” feel of great bluegrass, you’re in luck. More than 50 bands will participate in the StreetFest, which is free to attend and offers music, dancing, food, contests, artwork (Artsplosure Market), Carolina-made products (Got to Be NC), and more.

If you’re interested in hearing the musical talents of the “bluegrass greats” such as Alison Krauss, The Sam Bush Band, The Gibson Brothers, and more, take advantage of the opportunity to hear them all in one place! Pay It Forward

14th Annual Pay It Forward Party: Saturday, October 3rd – 6:30pm-11:30pm

Caring Community Foundation, a charitable organization that provides care and financial support to cancer patients, is hosting its 14th Annual Pay It Forward Party, “Forever in Blue Jeans”, on Saturday, October 3rd from 6:30pm-11:30pm at the Raleigh Marriot City Center. This fundraising event is held not only to raise money for this great cause but also to increase awareness of the needs and hardships of those battling cancer. This year, UNC Women’s Basketball coach, Sylvia Hatchell, will be sharing her story of cancer survival and her experience as an award winning coach. Guests may also participate in the auction while being entertained by outstanding auctioneer, Ben Farrell.

Family Adventure Race

13th Annual KIT Family Adventure Race: Sunday, October 4th

It’s time for an adventure! Kids in Training, an organization dedicated to the health of our youngest members of society, is hosting the 13th Annual KIT Family Adventure Race on Sunday, October 4th at Lake Crabtree in Morrisville. Two-person teams (one adult or older teen and one child ages 5-17) will join together to complete the adventure course which includes canoeing, biking, running, and special tests…which will not be revealed until game day! Distances range from .5 miles to 2 miles depending on the participant’s age.

The cost to enter the race is $70 per 2-person team. ClubKIT members will receive a discount upon registration. Packet pickup and setup begins at 11:30am and Race begins at 1pm. Click here to learn more about the 2015 Adventure Race as well as the KIT organization.
