Freedom Balloon Fest

WRAL Freedom Balloon Fest: Friday, May 22nd – Monday, May 25th

As the first hot air balloon festival to come to the Triangle region in nearly 25 years, the WRAL Balloon Fest has lots of exciting events planned at two locations: Bennett Bunn Plantation in Zebulon and Spring Forest Road Park in Raleigh. Come at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22nd to enjoy the celebration and witness the spectacular Mass Ascension as hot air balloons from 15 states rise into a late-spring sky. After sunset, many balloons will either return to the field or stay in the air for you to enjoy a beautiful Balloon Glow.

Come back Saturday, Sunday, and Monday from 6:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. to watch the Championship Competition Flights as pilots compete to see how well they can control their balloons.

Saturday and Sunday from 3:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. offer a special opportunity to get a taste of what it feels like to fly in a balloon as you enjoy a tethered balloon ride. After your ride, stick around for the meet-and-greet events where you can tour the balloon baskets, collect balloon cards and learn about the oldest form of manned flight.
